Learning as You Go: Practical Strategies for Adapting and Growing

Happy Friday! Are you ready for back to school? I’ve been nonstop the past few weeks preparing for the kids’ first day and, on top of that, I’ve been pretty sick. Figuring things out as we go has become our new normal, and some days work better than others.

Figuring Things Out As We Go

I often pause and wonder how we manage it all. People ask me all the time how I juggle everything, and while I’ve written about it before, many still expect a secret trick. The truth is there’s no magic—just a willingness to work hard for what I want and to adapt when plans change.

Most days I’m improvising. I rely on a few routines that help, but flexibility is the most important skill we’ve developed. That sometimes means grabbing takeout on the way home or allowing an extra episode of Daniel Tiger because I forgot to dry the girls’ blankies. Those choices keep the peace and keep us moving forward.

There are days I feel guilty, thinking I’m not the best mom I could be. But I remind myself that doing my best is enough. Schedules and lists are useful tools, yet accepting that plans will change and trusting ourselves to handle it matters more than perfection.

The coming weeks will be even busier: we’re moving again. If you follow me on Instagram, you might have seen we moved two months ago. We love our current place, but it didn’t feel right for us long term, so we’re relocating once more. Sometimes you have to try a situation to know whether it fits, and that experience helped us make the best decision for our family.

Life has a way of working itself out when you stay flexible, prioritize what matters, and keep showing up for your family—even on the messy days.
