Switch up your next game day spread with these Loaded Guacamole Sweet Potato Fries. Bright, flavorful, and healthier than the typical fry, this Mexican-inspired appetizer is perfect for parties — once you try them, regular sweet potato fries will seem boring.
Earlier this year I spent a week at a fitness and wellness resort in Malibu. It was a wonderful reset — one of the perks was not having to cook: a chef prepared every meal. The food was incredible and the whole experience was a delightful treat.
Still, I’m someone who likes a bit of control over what I eat, especially in the kitchen. By the end of the retreat, two ingredients were on my mind non-stop: sweet potatoes and avocados. I missed avocados so much I chose a vegetarian option multiple times just to get the avocado that came with it. When I returned home I made up for the deprivation by enjoying both ingredients liberally — and then I combined them.
That combination led to a revelation: sweet potato fries topped with guacamole are absolutely divine. The contrast of warm, slightly sweet roasted fries with cool, zesty guacamole and fresh pico de gallo is addictive.
I recently hosted a casual “Latin Night” inspired by a trip to Costa Rica and made my favorite pico de gallo to go with the meal. Adding pico to the sweet potato and guacamole combo turned out to be an excellent idea — the dish became “loaded” in the best way: creamy guacamole, juicy pico, and crispy roasted fries all in one bite.
This dish has been a frequent side at our dinners since I created it, and it’s perfect for any party or game day. Whether you’re watching the Super Bowl, having friends over for a casual meal, or just craving something different, these Loaded Guacamole Sweet Potato Fries are an easy crowd-pleaser.
