All you need is 15 minutes for these strawberry flavored Valentine Muddy Buddies. They are a fun, no-bake Valentine party treat that everyone will enjoy.

Valentine Muddy Buddies
No-bake treats are my favorite because they’re quick, easy, and always a hit. These strawberry-flavored Valentine Muddy Buddies come together in about 15 minutes and bring a delicate pink hue from strawberry cake mix. If you prefer a brighter red, you can replace part of the white chocolate with red candy melts, but I like the subtle flavor that the cake mix provides without relying on heavy artificial dyes.
Using cake mix to flavor and color the mix is simple and versatile. Beyond strawberry, you can experiment with lemon, funfetti (birthday cake), orange, gingerbread, spice, or cherry chip. Once you master the method, infinite flavor variations are possible.

How to Make Muddy Buddies without Peanut Butter
Traditional muddy buddies use peanut butter, but this Valentine version swaps peanut butter and milk chocolate for white chocolate and strawberry cake mix. That makes them a convenient, peanut-free option for class parties and gatherings where peanut allergies are a concern. They’re also easy to adapt — try Nutella, butterscotch chips, cereal variations, or popcorn for different textures and flavors.
How Long Will Muddy Buddies Stay Fresh?
These treats usually disappear quickly at my house, but stored in an airtight container they stay fresh for up to a week. That makes them easy to prepare in advance for school parties or events without losing flavor or crunch.

Ingredients
- 5 cups Chex (rice, corn, or a mix)
- 10 oz white chocolate chips
- 1 tablespoon shortening
- 1 cup strawberry cake mix
- 1/2 cup powdered sugar
Instructions
- Place the cereal in a large mixing bowl. In a microwave-safe 2-cup glass bowl, combine the white chocolate chips and shortening. Microwave for one minute, whisk, then continue in 30-second intervals until smooth.
- Pour the melted white chocolate over the cereal and stir quickly to coat evenly. Transfer about 3/4 of the coated cereal to one gallon-sized zip-top bag and the remaining 1/4 to a second bag. Add the strawberry cake mix to the bag with 3/4 of the Chex and the powdered sugar to the bag with the remaining 1/4. Seal the bags and shake each until the cereal is thoroughly coated.
- Combine the coated cereal into a single airtight container and store for up to one week.
