Delicious frozen meals for little people from Kiddyum
Some evenings it’s a real challenge to get a home-cooked dinner on the table. Between after-school activities and work commitments, there are at least a couple of nights each week when preparing a meal from scratch is difficult. I try to plan ahead with a slow cooker or batch-cooked portions in the freezer, but more often than not I find myself rummaging through the fridge at 6pm.
On those hectic days, ready-made options can be a lifesaver. When Kiddyum offered me the chance to try their new frozen meals for children, I was keen to see how they compared to home cooking. Kiddyum focuses on creating high-quality meals designed for children aged 1 to 4, made with the sort of ingredients you would use at home.
All Kiddyum recipes contain no added sugar or hidden salt: no fruit concentrates, no salty stocks, and no sneaky sweeteners. The meals use straightforward ingredients so they work well as a reliable alternative to home cooking when time is tight.
Kiddyum currently offers five varieties:
Macaroni Bolognese

Chicken Curry & Rice

Cottage Pie

Fish & Veg Pie

Cheesy Peasy Pasta

My children had clear favourites: Aoife loved the Cottage Pie, while Finn repeatedly chose the Chicken Curry & Rice. I appreciated that Kiddyum doesn’t try to hide vegetables; vegetables play a prominent role in each meal. I usually serve an extra portion of cooked or raw veg alongside the meal to boost fibre and nutrients.

Frozen food sometimes gets an unfair reputation, but freezing preserves nutrients and helps reduce food waste. Kiddyum’s packaging is 99% recyclable, and because the meals are frozen they use card trays rather than plastic containers, which lowers plastic use.
Kiddyum meals are available in store and online at Sainsbury’s and online at Ocado.
