These Toffee Bars are quick, simple, and irresistibly delicious.

This treat combines a buttery toffee-style crust with melted chocolate and crunchy pecans. A pan of these bars disappears fast, and they also freeze well, making them an excellent make-ahead dessert.

You will need: butter, brown sugar, an egg yolk, flour, vanilla, Hershey bars, and pecans.

Preheat your oven to 325°F (163°C).

First, cream the butter, egg yolk, and brown sugar together until smooth.

Add the flour and vanilla, then beat until fully combined to form a dough.

Grease a 9×13-inch pan and press the dough evenly into the pan.

Bake for about 25 minutes at 325°F, or until the edges are golden brown.

A note: the crust may look slightly soft or “soupy” when it first comes out of the oven. That’s normal — it will firm up as it cools.

Remove the crust from the oven and place the Hershey bars directly on top. Let them sit for 3–5 minutes until the chocolate becomes glossy and melted enough to spread.

Using the back of a spoon, spread the melted chocolate evenly over the crust.

Sprinkle the chopped pecans evenly over the melted chocolate.

Allow the bars to cool completely so the chocolate hardens. If you’re short on time, chill them in the refrigerator for about an hour. If refrigerated, bring the bars back to room temperature before cutting to avoid the chocolate separating from the crust.

Cut into squares and serve. Delicious!

Toffee Bars:

1 cup (2 sticks) butter

1 cup packed brown sugar

1 egg yolk

1 cup all-purpose flour

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

6 Hershey chocolate bars

1/2 cup chopped pecans

Preheat oven to 325°F (163°C).

Cream the butter, egg yolk, and brown sugar together until smooth. Add the flour and vanilla, and beat until fully incorporated.

Grease a 9×13-inch baking pan and press the dough evenly into the pan. Bake for about 25 minutes, or until the edges turn golden brown. Remove from the oven and immediately place the Hershey bars on top. Wait until the chocolate becomes glossy and melted, then spread it evenly and sprinkle with pecans.

Let the bars cool completely so the chocolate sets before cutting. If you chill them, allow them to return to room temperature before slicing to prevent the chocolate from separating from the crust.

Extra Tip: For added crunch and flavor, stir in a handful of crushed toffee bits (found near the baking chips) on top of the chocolate before it sets.
