How to Make Pizza Rolls

Step 1

Start with a sheet of pizza dough—store-bought dough like Pillsbury canned dough works well here. Gently press or drape the dough over the cavities of an ice cube tray so it forms little cups. This is an easy way to shape uniform bite-sized pieces without extra tools.

Step 2

Spoon a small amount of pizza sauce into each dough cup, then add shredded mozzarella. From here you can mix and match toppings to suit your taste. A classic choice is ham and crushed pineapple for a Hawaiian-style bite, but pepperoni, sausage, vegetables, or just extra cheese all work great.

Step 3

Cover the filled cups with a second sheet of pizza dough and press the edges together. Use a fork to crimp and seal each bite so the filling stays inside during freezing and baking. For best results, freeze the tray for a few hours or overnight—this makes them easier to remove and helps the bites hold their shape.

Step 4

When you’re ready to bake, turn the ice cube tray over and pop the now-frozen pizza bites out. Place them on a baking sheet and use a pizza cutter or serrated knife to trim any uneven edges or separate them into individual squares if needed. Lightly spray the baking sheet with non-stick cooking spray to prevent sticking.

Step 5

Preheat the oven to 400°F (about 200°C). Arrange the pizza bites on the prepared baking sheet and bake for roughly 10 minutes, or until the dough is golden brown and the cheese is melted and bubbly. Keep an eye on them, since oven temperatures and thickness of dough can affect cook time.
